A Labor of Love

A Labor of Love

One year in and life here at the yellow cape cottage has been productive. So productive, in fact, that I am thinking that a nice long break of nothingness has been earned. However, I live in the real world where this is not only impossible but unappreciated. Nothingness is only a dream that exists to keep people like me busy and productive. We say things to ourselves like, "When I finish 'this', I will spend some time doing nothing". Such a lie, but a beautiful one nevertheless. My favorite busy place to have these thoughts is in my garden. This massive undertaking is in its second season. Along with much progress and transformation, I have developed tendonitis and a permanent stiffness in all of my joints. I truly love projects that give back in multiple ways.

Before fall sets in and I turn my attention back to the inside of my home, I want to share this season's efforts with you all. As you scroll through my photo tour, please imagine me sitting in one of my white cushioned chairs with a glass of chilled white wine basking guilt free in the art of nothingness. I know that I dreamed this often enough as I dug another hole, re-positioned another plant, stained newly rebuilt benches, opened and spread the 150th bag of mulch, watered dry areas where ineffective sprinklers failed to and repaired cracked concrete. Maybe, if we dream en masse, it might just come true on one of the few lovely sunny afternoons left before the rains return to claim their place.

Last April, I did a Welcome to Our New Home post. It has several exterior shots of our home just before we purchased it. Feel free to check it out. It might give some perspective on the past year's progress.

Thanks for coming along my winding tour through most of my garden. Next year in lieu of nothingness, I hope to transform another section. I think rest for me is working in my garden. It gives back to me as much, if not more, than I give to it.
